Woman Sues over Guacamole Dip

I think there may be something to this. Los Angeles woman sues Kraft Foods over the lack of avocado in their "guacamole" dip.

"Idiocracy" DVD Street Date Released

With all the hype surrounding Borat, it's easy to forget about the best satire to (barely) hit the big screen this year -- Mike Judge's Idiocracy. For the curious outside of Texas and LA, Amazon.com has announced that the DVD will be released on January 9th. And it's available for pre-order. I officially declare this a must-see.

Midterm Elections in Review -- The Big Picture

A lot of the self-congratulatory back slapping being practiced by the Dems in the wake of the Midterm elections seems a bit much by my standards. Sure they're controlling the House and possibly the Senate -- but only by the slimmest of margins. I guarantee an evacuation of all libs/progressives by 2008. All it will take will be one well-placed and timely "terrorist" attack on US soil...and the fat slobs that make up 80% of this country will be soiling their Depends, crying out to Cheneyburton, "Save Us! Sure, we'll give you another tax break for the rich...What? You want some more civil liberties? Take them...we have no use for them anyway."

One interesting aspect of the elections was here in Texas. Although Bush Baby Rick Perry was a shoe-in for the Governorship from the beginning, a couple of Independent candidates made it pretty interesting. Kinky Friedman came in a disappointing yet not-unexpected fourth place behind Dem Chris Bell and fellow Independent Carolyn Strayhorn. Friedman took in 11% which seems a bit low considering how well he polled even earlier this week.

On a more local note here in Dallas, it's nice to see that all 12 bond propositions passed -- this represents the biggest public investment in the city's history. Over $1.35 billion dollars will be spent on infrastructure including developing three parks on the sad ol' Trinity River.

Adrienne Shelly Dead at 40

Sad to report that actress Adrienne Shelly has died. Police are still investigating what appears to be a suicide. Although the petite Shelly was hardly a household name, fans of Hal Hartley movies will recognize her. She was really great in the 2001 movie Revolution #9, a rarely seen indie film that also featured the ill-fated Spalding Gray. I really can't recommend the movie enough. Check it out.

UPDATE: Turns out an Ecuadoran handyman was the culprit. Apparently he and Ms. Shelly had a little argument that went south pretty quickly...oh, just read the article.

28 Weeks Later - Raw Footage

The Fox Atomic site has raw footage from "28 Weeks Later," the sequel to 2003's worthy zombie flick, "28 Days Later." This time around, Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is at the helm. Fresnadillo directed the intriguing fantasy-thriller "Intacto" which came out in limited release back in 2002. I wrote a review of it back when I was freelancing for CitySearch.com but the review is long gone.

Calvin Pees

You know you've made it big as an artist when your creation is appropriated for use as a cultural meme...copyright be damned. I was talking to somebody recently about how everybody these days knows the character Calvin from Bill Watterson's imaginative "Calvin and Hobbes" as that evil little kid who pisses on Chevy logos. Relatively few know he was ever a popular, daily syndicated comic strip. This site was onto that idea waaay back.
